The gun shown above is a Norinco 1911. I am going to do a complete
rebuild of this gun for its owner - alot like rebuilding a Chevrolet small block ! But its functionality needs to be tested first. The way to start is to clean it. But most owners just "field strip" the gun the way it is shown above. That's o.k. But in time the gun must be "detail stripped" for proper cleaning. When was the last time you detail stripped your Colt or 1911 clone ?
Once the mainspring housing is taken off of the frame, the grip safety and sear spring are accessible for cleaning. More on the mainspring housing later.
